Red Angus Cattle
Gilreath Farms

We regularly have Red Angus cattle ready for sale

We do not individually list our Red Angus cattle for sale, but we have them available for purchase at our family cattle farm in Knoxville, TN intermittently throughout the year.

For beef, Red Angus cattle produce a highly desired meat being excellent quality. This is due to the intra muscular marbling.  We do not typically custom finish beef, but if you want to finish them on your property we can provide guidance based on our experience and what you would like to get from your beef.

If you are looking to start or add to your own herd, we have found the Red Angus to be an absolutely amazing breed.  The meat quality is similar to that of Black Angus, but the cattle seem to have a better temperament and are easier to work with.  Before you buy cattle at auction or from craigslist, give us a call.  Gilreath Farms can provide you with excellent Red Angus stock for your herd at a reasonable price. Read more about the history of Red Angus cattle.

Red Angus cattle, renowned for their distinctive reddish-brown coat, originate from the same genetic stock as Black Angus, tracing their history back to Aberdeen and Angus in Scotland. The breed was developed in the 19th century, distinguished by its naturally polled (hornless) feature, a trait that was highly sought after for safety and convenience in handling. The color variation in Angus cattle led to the emergence of the Red Angus as a distinct breed.

Their arrival in the United States dates back to the late 19th century, but it was not until the mid-20th century that they gained significant popularity. This was largely due to the establishment of the Red Angus Association of America in 1954, which played a crucial role in promoting the breed’s qualities like excellent beef quality, hardiness, and efficient reproduction. Over the years, Red Angus cattle have become highly valued for their carcass qualities and are now a prominent breed in the beef industry globally. Their adaptability to various climates and strong maternal traits have further solidified their reputation as a superior beef cattle breed.
